3 Months

Our little sweet pea is three months old.  My heart feels torn, sad that she is growing up so fast but excited for all the fun new things she is learning to do.   Being a parent is tough, it is exciting to see your child learn and grow while simultaneously part of you wishes they would stay tiny

 forever.  

She had her 3 month old check up and here are the results:
Height: 60 centimeters/ 23.62 inches
Weight: 14.2 lbs/ 6.8kg
Head: 41.24 centimeters/ 16.22 inches 

All stats ranking in 90%.  Doctor was very happy with her check up. And so were we. She said she was developing really nicely and was quite advanced for her age, more on par with a four month old.  She has really good head control, and muscle tone, and is very advanced with her social skills and development.  She was cooing and laughing at the beginning but by the end of the appointment she was as mad as a red hen. She didn't have to get any shots but she wasn't to fond of all the poking and prodding.  The doctor also recommended we try to keep her exclusively on breast milk until she is 6 months old since she is really thriving on it.  At that point we will slowly start to introduce more solid foods.   

Other 3 Month Old updates:

1. new clothes. 

We have started introducing some of Ayla's 3-6 month clothes and are fazing out the 0-3 month stuff as it is quickly becoming to little.  It is fun to have a whole new wardrobe of clothes to dress her in but sad at the same time, as I look how tiny the 0-3 months clothes are and realize how much my baby girl is growing.  I can't help but get a little bit sad and sentimental as I pack her little clothes in a box in the closet to make room in her dresser for the new bigger ones.  I think I am starting to understand why my mom kept so many of our babies clothes.  It is like trying to hold on to a piece of them when they were that size.  Kinda silly, but true. 

2. No more bassinet. 

We switched out the bassinet in Ayla's stroller for a big girl seat. Ayla likes being able to sit up and look at the world around her.  The big girl seat reclines so that is great for when she gets sleepy and wants to take a nap.  The main thing I miss about using the bassinet is how convenient it was for changing her diaper.

3. Bumbo Seat

Ayla has started using her bumbo seat so she can sit up on her own.  It is nice for me to have her with me in the kitchen while I wash dishes or make food.  I can talk to her and she can watch what I am doing.  

4. Rolling Over

Ayla is just starting to try and roll over from her tummy to back.  We were doing tummy time the other day (which she still doesn't like every much) and she went ahead and decided she wasn't having it and rolled herself over onto her back.  Sometimes she gets stuck on her side or her arm gets in the way, so then I help her, but it won't be long before she can do it all alone every time. 

5.  Playing

Ayla is so fun to play with.  She is such a happy little baby.  She loves to smile and laugh and we will do just about anything to see her smile and make her laugh. When I smile at her she immediately responds with a big open mouth gummy grin and it warms my heart. She laughs when she is tickled on her back.  She laughs when she is being bounced on the bed. She laughs at silly faces and noises.  She has discovered her voice and makes all kinds of cooing and gaga noises.  Oh and guess what else she likes to do?  Squeal.  For Fun.  She has entered the stage where she will squeal in delight, it is a loud, high pitched sound and there are days  she will do it over and over again. 

6.   Drooling 

We have a drooler.  Ayla has never been a baby who spits up.  In fact she has probably spit less than 5 times in her life so far.  Knock on wood.  Lucky us we only have to worry about messes coming out the opposite end.  But recently she has started blowing bubbles in her spit which then turns to drool down her chin.  So we have finally started to use all the burp rags we were given.

7.   Fingers and hands

Ayla has found her fingers and hands, and she loves to suck on them.  We have to watch her carefully because she will get her fingers to far down her throat and gag herself.  So for the most part we try to make her stick to the binky.  She also has discovered she can make her hands grab and hit things.  The hair grabbing has began... only bad part is she hasn't quite figured out how to let go yet.  She will grab and hold onto the toys on her play mat.  She even has grabbed and held onto her binky.  There have been a couple times now where she has grabbed her binky right out of her mouth, then she waves it around until she finally lets it drop.  She hasn't figured out how to get the binky back in her mouth yet, but she sure does try.  You can see her face concentrating so hard and sometimes she gets pretty close but then we end up helping her out with that one.  

8. Stories

Ayla loves books.  She likes being read to and looking at the pictures.  I am amazed at how entertained she is with books at such a young age.  Funny, I think her favorite is Goodnight moon.  She acts like she likes this one best.  Sometimes she will laugh and smile a little as I read it to her.  She will even start to fuss when it is over, but is happy the instant I start reading it again.  

9.  Size 2

We have moved Ayla upto size 2 diapers.  At first I thought using the bigger diapers might prevent all the blow outs we have been experiencing, but after about one day I realized that was wishful thinking. 

10. Pet Names

We have quite a few nick names for Ayla right now.  We call her, boo boo, booger, nugget, muffin, munchkin, munchy, bug, beauty and Ayla- bo- byla- banana- fana- fo- fyla- fee- fi- mo- myla Ayla.

We are both absolutely head over heals in love with this little lady and excited to see how much she grows, develops, and learns in the upcoming months.
