A Little Nose that Runs...

Ayla has had a little cold all week.  Her nose alternated from being runny and stuffy.  Not sure which is worse.  The runny nose that has to wiped every 30 seconds and every time Ayla spotted us coming toward her with a tissue in hand she started to cry and shake her head side to side and wave her arms in resistance to what she knew was coming.  Or the stuffy nose that made it so she couldn't breather out of her mouth causing her to have a fit full sleep and wake up screaming bloody murder.
Aside from the dealing with a slightly crankier more irritable Ayla, the sickies did have one benefit... the snuggles.

I could never get enough of this little bugs snuggles.  And I have to soak them up when they come, cause they don't come nearly often enough. Ayla hates cuddling.  She is way to independent for that.  She wants me close but not smothering and she has been like that since the day she was born.   The go to position for babies is always chest to chest, but Ayla hated that position from day one.  For her it was always back to chest, so she could look out at the world around her.

Since Ayla was feeling under the weather and we wanted to be courteous of all the other babies we didn't go to any of our normal outings and playgroups.

Instead we spent the week at home, here are some of the highlights.
  • Afternoons at the pool.  We went to the pool 3 times this week.
  • Daily walks in the stroller with Zuri by our side
  • Playing fetch with Zuri under a shaded tree.  That entertained us all for over an hour.
  • It was one of the those weeks where I cleaned and laundered, and cleaned some more and yet no one would ever know it, as the second something was clean another thing was dirty.
  • Also another one of those weeks where you feel like poop is taking over your life.  Where you wish for just one day your child would lay still for 2 minutes so you could properly change her diaper instead of dealing with a screaming, struggling child as you desperately try to contain a poopy mess and yet somehow it still ends up getting on my hand, Ayla's foot, up her back, on my leg and perhaps another mystery place I'll find later on in the day.  Perfect.
  • I think Ayla thinks she is a dog, or part dog, not quite sure, but she has started crawling around with various toys in her mouth just like Zuri does.  Maybe that is another reason she hasn't taken to walking yet.  She prefers to crawl on all fours like her four legged friend.
  • Ayla has also started to do the sign language for No No.  Well at least the sign language we taught her, which is to shake her pointer finger up and down whenever we say no no.   It is so gosh darn cute.
  • Ayla has only taken one nap instead of two everyday this week.  Under healthy circumstances one nap would actually give us a lot more freedom to go out during the day instead of scheduling everything around two naps.   But with a week spent entirely at home with a sick little one it made the days feel a lot longer.
  • The weekend has been cooler with strong winds and heavy rain.   Only in Cayman can it be 78 degrees outside and feel a bit like winter.  So that has trapped us at home also. But at least we had our dad home. We did manage to all go out to lunch on Saturday as a final feast before we began our 24 hour fast.  And we were all able to attend all 3 hours of church, which was really great!  One of Chris's employees is taking the missionary discussions and was at church this week.  I even bore my testimony.  It has been a good day.

I could not be more excited about the 22 special visitors we have coming our way!
4:30pm on Thursday can't come soon enough.
